Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
Cristo Rey was inspired by the model developed by Archbishop Joseph Cardinal Bernadine in Chicago to provide quality education to students in impoverished neighborhoods. The goal was to create a teaching environment that was both inspirational and motivating for students as well as provide a foundation for developing skills for college and their future as professionals. Design challenges included creating a seamless aesthetic between the school and Urban Ventures which shared the building, as well as being sensitive to the diverse culture of the student population and surrounding community. I worked closely with vendors, local artists, and community members to meet the design and functional requirements.
